ABOUT US
We are a NON-SMOKING, active, husband and wife team in our late 60s that go by the names of Clive & Shirley ‘Looker’, a name we certainly live up to, as we are both ‘lookers’ in the true sense of the word. Indeed we are upholding an ancient tradition dating back to about the year 200AD. The surname ‘Looker’ is particularly associated with Southern Britain. When a herdsman was responsible for ‘looking after’ his sheep/cattle and moving them to higher ground in case of sudden flooding, he was called a ‘Looker’. And that is what we are still doing some eighteen hundred years later. However, we have progressed from just looking after animals, because we now include people and property in our remit. Now you can’t get a better pedigree than that!
You may be interested to learn that, in East Sussex, when farmers go to check on their animals, even today, they still go ‘lookering’.
OUR CREDENTIALS
Until September 2010 we lived in the centre of rural France where we experienced the joys of owning and running a smallholding.
During our nine years in France we Farm sat, House sat and Animal sat on a number of occasions and whilst we do not claim to be farmers, we do know a little about animal husbandry and general gardening.
Our expertise stretches from dogs, cats, tropical fish, pond fish, ducks, chickens, goats, pigs, sheep to all things little and furry.
One thing we know very little about however, is horses. As this is a specialize subject ,we think the care of horses is best left to those that are more knowledgeable than us.
Before embarking on our sojourn to France, we owned and ran a pet and garden supply shop. Having so much animal food on hand it was inevitable we would become involved in the rescue of all manner of animals and birds both wild and domestic. You can see just a few of these in the pictures to the right of the screen. We are now firmly ensconced back in the UK and have decided to offer our expertise to all those that may wish to take advantage of it. However having moved back to the UK we certainly haven’t abandoned France and will accept assignments anywhere in the UK or France.
